Designed to accurately match both the shape and shade of your teeth, porcelain fixed bridges are a durable form of tooth restoration offered at Dr. Fixari’s dental office. They are considered permanent in that they cannot be removed.

What is a Porcelain Fixed Bridge?

A porcelain fixed bridge is attached to the two teeth on either side of the space where a tooth is currently missing. An artificial tooth (pontic) is attached in the middle of the bridge and will serve to fill in the gap where the missing tooth was before. The teeth on both sides of the bridge (abutment teeth) will have crowns over them.

The Functions of a Porcelain Fixed Bridge:

  • Fills in an empty space where a tooth is missing
  • Prevents movement of your surrounding teeth
  • Helps to maintain your facial shape
  • Assists with chewing and speaking ability
  • Restores functionality to your mouth and beauty to your smile
  • Offers a viable alternative to removable partial dentures
  • Can prevent jaw problems related to missing teeth

Advantages of a Porcelain Fixed Bridge:

  • Last permanently
  • Highly durable
  • Resembles your natural teeth

How Long Do Porcelain Fixed Bridges Procedures Take?

Getting a bridge usually requires at least two visits to Dr. Fixari’s dental office. During your first visit, Dr. Fixari will prepare your anchoring teeth for a crown. An impression, or mold, is made and sent to a laboratory. You will be given a temporary bridge while your porcelain fixed bridge is being constructed. On your second visit to Dr. Fixari’s office you will be fitted with your new bridge.

How Long do Porcelain Fixed Bridges Last?

With regular visits to Dr. Fixari’s office and good oral hygiene habits, you can expect your porcelain fixed bridge to last anywhere from eight to ten years or possibly longer. However, due to normal wear and tear, your bridge may need to be replaced or re-cemented after a period of time.

When you visit Dr. Fixari, he will discuss your bridge options with you, and teach you how to properly care for your dental appliance(s).
